On the Meeting with the Swedish Minister for Migration
In Stockholm, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olimjon Abdullaev held a meeting with the Swedish Minister for Migration, Johan Forssell.
During the talks, the sides discussed prospects for developing Uzbek-Swedish cooperation in the field of migration. The Minister noted that his visit to Uzbekistan on June 24-25, 2025, during which the Joint Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Migration was signed, had completely changed his perception of Uzbekistan.
Mr. Forssell emphasized that the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to promote legal migration open up good prospects for establishing systematic cooperation with Sweden in this area. In this context, the Swedish side confirmed its readiness to finalize the negotiation process on the draft Intergovernmental Agreement on Migration and Mobility.
Both sides underscored the need to establish long-term partnership in this sphere, including through financing projects aimed at encouraging legal migration, protecting the rights and interests of labor migrants, and strengthening the institutional capacity of Uzbekistan’s migration services.
