MFA hosted the meeting with the Ambassador of Russia
On 2 May 2025, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bobur Usmanov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan Oleg Malginov.
During the talks, the sides exchanged detailed views on priority areas of Uzbek-Russian cooperation. The sides discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as agreed on the schedule of upcoming high-level events both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
The sides underscored the high-level Uzbek-Russian cooperation on consular and legal issues: consular consultations are held annually. As mentioned, there is also regular bilateral interaction established in the sphere of migration: monthly meetings of the bilateral working group are held on issues of the organised recruitment of Uzbekistan citizens to work in the Russian Federation.
It was underlined that regular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation actively contribute to the effective protection of the rights and interests of citizens of both countries, improvement of mechanisms of interaction in the field of consular services, as well as prompt resolution of issues related to labor migration – pre-departure language and professional training of citizens, transfer of some permitting procedures to Uzbekistan and measures to ensure compliance with the law.
During the talks, the Uzbek side drew the attention of the Russian side to the increasing reports of violations of rights and cases of harsh treatment of labor migrants from Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation.
It was emphasized that such actions are considered as violation of the rights and freedoms of Uzbekistan’s citizens working in Russia, which must be ensured by the laws of the country of residence.
In this regard, a call was made to thoroughly study the raised issue and convey the concerns of the Uzbek side to the relevant competent authorities of the Russian Federation.
Finalizing the meeting parties agreed to continue close cooperation in mutually ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens of Uzbekistan and Russia in both countries.
