Tashkent hosted the Second Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the Strategic Dialogue “Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council”

 

On April 15, 2024, the Second Foreign Ministerial meeting of the Strategic Dialogue “Central Asia – Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf” was held in Tashkent under the chairmanship of the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Foreign Ministers Jeenbek Kulubaev (Kyrgyzstan), Sirojiddin Muhriddin (Tajikistan), Rashid Meredov (Turkmenistan), Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani (Bahrain), Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya (Kuwait), Badr Albusaidi (Oman), Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud (Saudi Arabia), as guest of honor Jeyhun Bayramov (Azerbaijan), State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Special Representative of the UAE President for Central Asia, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakaev, as well as Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

The parties discussed strengthening mutually beneficial and comprehensive cooperation between the two regions in the trade, economic, investment, transport and communications, cultural and humanitarian, environmental, and tourism spheres.

The sides reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached within the framework of the first summit of leaders of states of Central Asia and the GCC, held on July 19, 2023, in Jeddah, as well as the “Joint Action Plan for 2023-2027 for Strategic Dialogue and Cooperation”.

An exchange of views took place on current aspects of the international and regional agenda, in particular the current situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

Special attention was paid to preparation issues for holding the next Summit in the “Central Asia - GCC” format in Samarkand in 2025.

The third Foreign Ministerial Meeting of this format will take place in 2026 in Kuwait.

Following the meeting, a Joint Statement was adopted.
