On July 21, 2023, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with US Institute for Peace (USIP) Senior Project Coordinator Barmak Pazhvak and Lead Fellow Matthew Parks.

B.Pazhvak highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to develop a consolidated regional position on Afghanistan, establish long-term peace and stability in the country, and provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

Special attention was also paid to the implementation of the initiative of the leadership of Uzbekistan to create an international negotiating group under the auspices of the UN.
